About

Children and teen fine art classes at 92NY's Gilda and Henry Block School of the Arts on the Upper East Side (1395 Lexington Avenue, between 91st & 92nd streets). Fall 2026 semester classes run weekly from mid-September through late January in the school's dedicated fine art studios. Nine courses: Drawing & Painting, Cartooning & Animation, Cartooning: Ink & Imagination, Creative Crafts, Sewing & Design, Portfolio Prep for Visual Arts and Design Specialized High Schools, Teen Figure Drawing, Advanced Drawing & Watercolor Painting for Teens, and Drawing at the Met for Teens.

For the young artist who loves to draw and wants to explore new techniques. This course is for beginners and experienced young artists alike to learn proportion and composition, while developing keen observational skills. Students will draw and paint from observation and their imagination to improve technical skills and build creativity. Emphasis is on fundamental principles, such as line, shape, form, color, composition, perspective and more.

Create your own characters and bring them to life in this exciting class! Using simple techniques and materials students will discover how their favorite books and cartoons are made. Young artists will learn the basics of drawing and progress from still images to creating the magic of movement in their own artwork. The first half of the class will focus on learning the fundamentals of illustration. After students have honed their drawing skills, they will explore the world of traditional handmade animation techniques like stop motion and flip books. Through individual and group projects, students will be inspired to create their own characters and use them to develop stories and worlds. In addition, students will be challenged to use critical thinking skills to solve problems and make creative decisions!

Weekday semester classes run September through late January ($970-1,130 for the full fall semester; Sewing & Design $1,020; Drawing at the Met for Teens $1,385 including weekly sessions inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art).
