About
Camp Walnut is Walnut Street Theatre's dynamic summer training program educating students in the craft of musical theatre, acting, and beyond. Camp Walnut returns July 6, 2026 thru July 30, 2026, Monday-Thursday, at America's oldest theatre (founded 1808), 825 Walnut Street in Philadelphia.
Discovery Division (beginning students): The Discovery Division invites beginning students to uncover their hidden talents, enhance their communication skills, and spark their creativity. Through engaging theatre games and activities, campers will dive into improvisation, vocal technique, playwriting, dance, and on-camera skills. The experience culminates in our Camp Walnut Showcase on our historic stage, featuring an original musical created entirely by the campers based on their favorite fairytales and fables! Students interested in the Discovery Division do not need to audition for admittance and are accepted on a first-come first-served basis.
Development Division (intermediate students): In the Development Division, beginner to intermediate campers are challenged to deepen their understanding of the craft through engaging classes and the production of a 30-minute scripted musical. More advanced classes cover a range of skills, including improvisation, acting techniques, audition coaching, vocal training, dance, stage movement, and on-camera techniques. This year, campers will showcase their talents on our historic mainstage. Students interested in the Development Division must audition for admittance.
Performance Division (advanced students): The Performance Division is designed for our most experienced campers and is ideal for those aspiring to become professionals in the performing arts. Participants will receive intensive instruction and the opportunity to perform in a fully produced show at Walnut's Studio Theatre, directed by industry professionals. Students interested in the Performance Division must audition for admittance. Musical Theatre Programs: both programs are the same, but perform different shows — Beetlejuice JR. and The Addams Family (young@part).
We welcome students of all abilities, including those with disabilities and children who are developmentally typical.
Camp Walnut concludes for all students on July 30, 2026. Campers in the Discovery and Development Divisions will have their public performance on August 1, 2026, with public performances for the Performance Division scheduled from July 30-August 2, 2026.
